PROJECT INFORMATION

Jurassic World Rebirth gave me the opportunity to contribute to one of cinema’s most recognisable franchises through a sequence that deliberately uses a more painterly and graphic visual language.

My work focused on the animated museum sequence appearing within the live-action film. Rather than working in only one production discipline, I contributed across several stages of the visual pipeline, including visual development, storyboarding, early dinosaur exploration, environment design, background painting and the creation of animated 2.5D and 3D elements.

A key part of the process was designing environments that could work as finished illustrations while also functioning as assets for animation. I painted the backgrounds in Photoshop and separated them into carefully structured depth layers. These layers could then be positioned spatially and animated in After Effects to create subtle camera movement and parallax without losing the handcrafted quality of the original paintings.

One of the most technically involved parts of my contribution was the globe sequence. I first created the painted surface artwork and then transferred it into a spatial 3D workflow in Blender. The painted Earth texture was projected onto custom geometry, while additional brush strokes and graphic elements were placed directly into the 3D scene to preserve the painterly visual language.

Character animation created by the animation team was integrated into the spatial setup as transparent animation plates and timed to the movement of the globe. The resulting render was then brought into After Effects for final compositing and refinement.

The project reflects the way I like to approach production: moving fluidly between concept, illustration, spatial design, animation and compositing while maintaining one coherent visual language from the first rough idea to the final film frame.
